How it works
The robotic-arm assisted surgery takes partial knee resurfacing to a new level of precision, when compared to manual techniques.
Stryker’s Mako system helps the surgeon to assess bone preparation areas and implant positioning using a CT scan. The robotic arm, with its tactile, auditory and visual feedback, helps the surgeon to limit the bone preparation to the diseased areas and helps to position and place implants with greater precision.
Patients suitable for robotic-arm assisted partial knee surgery share the following characteristics:
- knee pain with activity, usually on the inner knee, under the kneecap or isolated to the outer knee
- start up knee pain or stiffness when activities are initiated from a sitting position
- failure to respond to non-surgical treatments, injections or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medication.
