The Sister Edith Centre for Education is a multifunctional and state-of-the-art educational facility with flexible learning areas and modern meeting spaces. The facility is used by our university teaching partners to support the learning needs of nursing undergraduates, and by the hospital community.
Simulated, interactive learning delivered by specialists
The centre provides much-needed space and facilities for teaching away from the bedside. It incorporates areas for simulation, now becoming an integral part of interactive teaching sessions and assessment, as well as lecture facilities. This enables delivery of course material, and frees students from the time-consuming need to attend at other campuses.
Additionally, our close ties with The Prince Charles Hospital allow students to rotate between the hospitals.
We also have an exceptional learning opportunity as we view live surgical procedures beamed from our operating theatres into our lecture theatres here in the education centre.

History of the centre
The Sister Edith Centre for Education was officially opened on 9 November 2012.
In recognition of our innovative clinical teaching and training in the acute care sector, Holy Spirit Northside was awarded a federally funded clinical and teaching grant, to increase our capacity for undergraduate medicine and nursing students. The grant was used to build the Sister Edith Centre for Education.
About Sister Edith Engel
The Sister Edith Centre for Education was named to honour Sister Edith Engel. A passionate nursing administrator, leader and educator, and Director of our first nursing school on Wickham Terrace Brisbane, Sister Edith Engel was one of the first American Missionary Sisters to come to Australia. Sister Edith was dedicated to improving and maintaining excellent nursing education standards – a goal towards which we continue to strive.
The Sister Edith Centre for Education is located at the southern end of the Holy Spirit Northside campus.
